AbstractA field study was conducted to determine the influence of two frequencies of trickle irrigation on crop growth and yield of maize (SUWAN-1) in clay soil. One Trickle (0) was daily irrigation, another Trickle (30) was irrigated at 30% depletion of water holding capacity while one surface irrigation Furrow (30) was irrigated at same condition as Trickle (30) for control. Results indicated no significant difference in yield and yield quality between Trickle (O) and Trickle (30). By increasing the irrigation interval based on 30% depletion obtained a deeper root distribution than frequent, daily trickle irrigation. The rainfall effects on maize growth were not significantly different between Trickle (30) and Trickle (0). And, both trickle irrigation treatments gave higher grain yield, plant weight, plant height, weight of 1000-seed, nutrient uptake in seeds than those of furrow irrigation.
