AbstractThis research study was conducted in Yang Talat, Kalasin, Northeast of Thailand, where a geologic formed saline soil prevails. This study was designed primarily to investigate the effects of the different rates of water application to the prevailing EC of the soil as well as to the crops growth and yields. Three crops were grown namely; Asparagus, Sweet Corn, and Mung Beans, in 27 plots with dimensions of 3m x 4m each. The crops were treated primarily with irrigation water with an EC of more than two mmhos/cm at the rate of 1.0, 1.15 and 1.25 times the water requirement of the respective crop. The aftermath of the applied water to the EC of the soil was studied. In Sweet Corn and Asparagus plots, the EC have been reduced significantly with the application of irrigation water, i.e. more excess water applied, the greater in soil EC reduction. In the Mung Bean, it did not show any significant differences between the treatments due to low water requirement of the crop, however, t he original EC of the upper 30 cm had been reduced eventually. The effects of each treatment to each crop yield are quite significant including within the treatment itself. The Asparagus and Sweet Corn yields are significantly reduced with the increase of water applied, while Mung Beans have significant increase in yields. Other effects that might receive consideration is the Leaching Requirement of the soil. The salt profiles which were expressed in EC were approaching steady-stat e condition during the latest period of the experiment, in exception to Mung Bean plots.
