Abstract | This study reviews a method for defining sequential operating policies for the multipurpose Mangla .reservoir. The streamflows into the reservoir are assumed to be serially correlated stochastic quantities which can be described by the first order Markov Chains. The design variables such as capacities and targets are assumed to be know and fixed. Historic discharge data of 37 years are used to determine the transition probabilities at each stage. These are applied in the recursive algorithm of stochastic dynamic programming, which when solved, define the optimal policy for each period, and also yield the expected future return at each stage of the transition period. |
