Abstract | “Drilling platform export” herein means the drilling platform is processed in a Vietnam contractor‟s own fabrication yard with foreign clients‟ investment. Then completed, it is transported overseas and installed in the clients‟ countries‟ sea area, out of Vietnam waters. The phrase seems to be new for the Vietnam oil and gas offshore construction industry. In the meanwhile, the competition of the industry in the international market is always a very fierce battle. Expanding into the international market is a really big challenge for Vietnam oil and gas offshore construction companies. Currently, there are only five companies which have capability of drilling rig construction and fabrication in Vietnam. Among them, Offshore Construction Division (OCD) was first – established company with the longest experience. Therefore, it is easily understood why OCD is holding a major part of the domestic market. However, OCD is finding it difficult to look for the overseas projects and settle its position in the international market. Successful drilling platform export is a strategic question for which OCD is making a lot of efforts to solve. In a continuous effort to find the effective way for OCD to answer the question, the report also analyzes the current situation of OCD via SWOT model. Besides this, the research objectively evaluates OCD‟s competitive advantages compared to other competitors Basing on the analysis, the author recommends some feasible solutions to help OCD to choose an exact orientation and take confident steps in the new strategy. |
