Abstract | Purchasing is an important function in a company, spending in average 57% of total expenses for running the company business. (Dobler and Burt, 1996). In Hoan My Medical Corporation, Purchasing function handles around 58% of total spending of the whole group in buying medical equipment, medications, consumables and other devices which serve the examination and treatment for patients and operation of the company. However, Purchases in Hoan My have been often complained for not being effective, for purchased goods that do not meet expected quality, not delivered on time, not having reasonable prices. People from Purchasing function and purchasing related functions such as technical, pharmaceutical staffs were perceived not to have sufficient skills, knowledge, integrity to perform their work effectively. This study aims to find the answers for what reasons make purchasing activities in Hoan My not effective as expected, and also to recommend some solutions for the main problems found. The author will use primary data to analyze the relationship between the work incompletion level versus target and the reasons for it. Secondary data got from interviews with employees will be also used for this purpose. Result of this project has shown that the weakest point in purchasing performance of the company is quality of purchased medical equipment, the main tools to serve patients’ examination and treatment in Hoan My hospitals and clinics. The company should address the reasons of problems and make necessary changes promptly. |
