AbstractWith the aid of a linear decision rule, Revelle et al (1969) developed stochastic model which formulates under four constraints of reservoir requirements, namely flood storage capacity, minimum storage, minimum release and maximum release. This model is tested with factual data of Sirikit Reservoir System. In order to find a suitable operating policy for this existing system, different combinations of various parameters are tried by computer linear programming. When initial condition is not considered in the model, same results can be obtained with the same inputs. A second model is formulated without considering the maximum release, this model is also tested with the same input data. When minimum storage and flood storage capacity are not considered in this model, smaller values of capacity were obtained. The above two models are run with monthly and seasonal periods Results from these models show that release during the seasonal period has larger values than that during the monthly period. A seasonal model with intra-seasonal constraints is also tested with the same data from the Sirikit Reservoir System; smaller values of capacity are also obtained when minimum storage and flood storage capacity are not included in the model. Finally, results from these three models are tabulated in table forms for comparison and discussion.
