Abstract | An exploratory investigation of the effect of flow conditions on friction coefficient of open· channel was carried out . Two set s of experiments were performed under smooth and rough boundary conditions, in a slope adjustable flume with a length of 12.2 m and width of .307 m. ·For the smooth boundary condition the side walls were made of glass while the bed was of smooth plastic. For the rough boundary condition the flume was roughened by sand grains of size 1.18 mm. All the experiments were conducted under non uniform flow condition. The results obtained in this study indicated the effects of flow profiles and Froude number on the friction coefficient of open channel flow. The values of friction coefficients obtained· in this investigation are higher in the case of M1 flow condition than in the M2 flow condition. Under M1 flow profile friction coefficients 'f' and 'n' increase considerably as Reynolds number decreases and vice versa. But in the case of M2 flow profile ' f' and 'n' increase or decrease very smoothly as Reynolds number decreases or increases. |
