AbstractThe interaction of symmetric building frame with strip footing on elastic foundation is studied to determine the influence of stiff ness of the superstructure on the behavior of foundation. The finite difference is used in the study of the problem of elastic beam resting on subgrade which is assumed to be an elastic half-space medium. Contact pressure is assumed uniformly distributed across the beam width. A parametric study is carried out by varying the parameters characterizing the relative stiffness of the frame and of the subgrade to that of the foundation beam. The results obtained indicate that the stiffness of frame has a considerable effect on the distribution of bending moment and on displacement of the foundation beam, therefore it should be taken into account in a more accurate analysis for an economic and more realistic design.
