AbstractA numerical model based on finite difference technique is developed to analyze and solve the problem of an unconfined, homogeneous, isotropic coastal aquifer of infinite extent with two unknown boundaries as free surface and interface. The numerical model is considered in the complex Potential plane. The solutions to the model are achieved through a) Gauss Elimination and b) Successive-overrelaxation method for the flow domain. The numerical solution is compared with Glover' s exact solution for the interface location, finite element solution and approximate solution based on Dupuit assumptions & Ghyben- Herzberg approximation for the normal case without gallery. An attempt to apply the same numerical model to upcoming case with an infiltration gallery in the flow domain has been made. Results of this inconclusive extension are also presented.
