AbstractThis research is concerned mainly with the evaluation of piezometer response for the determination of soil permeability, k, coefficient of consolidation, C, and coefficient of volume change, m. Laboratory tests were carried out on several piezometers embedded in large triaxial specimens of several soil types, and field tests were carried out in Soft Bangkok Clay. The author's results and those of past investigators were widely interpreted using 'equalization charts' for cylindrical piezometers as modified by the author. The deduced soil properties from these charts were found to vary with the percentage of response. Times at 50% and 90% of response (tso & t90) were found to be the response times which gave soil properties comparable with those from other kinds of tests. Field response tests were found to be not reliable for the determination of soil properties because of experimental difficulties.
