AbstractField vane tests and different Laboratory tests were carried out to determine the undrained shear strength of soft Rangsit clay and the results of the different types of tests are compared. For the present investigation the undisturbed samples were taken from 4-.0 m to 6.5 m. below the existing ground surface at a site at the Asian Institute of Technology. Results of the present investigation revealed that the Laboratory vane shear test gave the highest undrained shear strength to be followed by shear box test. Among the consolidated undrained tests, CIU compression tests yielded the highest strength to be followed in order by CAU(c), and CAU(E), tests.
