| Abstract | The Chao Phraya Basin can be divided geohydrologic ally into eight regions: namely Chao Phraya trough, Singburi region, Uthai Thani-Chainat region, Nakhon Sawan region, Alluvial fan along the border of Khorat Plateau region, Chachoeng-sao region, Suphan Buri region and Ratburi Nakhon Pathom region. The Chao Phraya trough is further subdivided into four subregions. The aquifers found in the area 0f Samut Prakan, Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom and Ratburi area are continuous overalarge area and groundwater overjumping from these aquifers are considered to be responsible for soil compressibility and ground subsidence of Bangkok. Four aquifers have been found within 150 meters depth. The thickness of these aquifers range from 6 to 50 meters; in the Bangkok areas they generally range from 15 to 30 meters. They are intercalated by clay or sandy clay of approximately the same thickness. Most of these aquifers pinch out or disappear in the thick cl ay layer located along the east and northeast boundary. To the west their boundaries are not well defined but some of them may onlap the rock outcrops .near the Mae Klong river. To the northwest, they probably extend to the Ayutthaya area. The west and northwest boundary of these aquifers are considered as being the zones of recharge. |
