AbstractThe purpose of this study is to compare alternative construction methods and feasibility of substituting labour - intensive methods for the capital-intensive ones in building construction. The scope of the study is confined to concreting only, because this activity can offer a potential for substantial substitution. The concept of work study and time lapse movie film is used to get the productivity of available resources for different work elements. A project of Bank of Thailand, 'New Head Office Building', at present under construction is used to assess the possibility of labour-in tensive substitution. Results of this study have indicated that totally labour-intensive method of construction is competitive coastwise and employment creation but results in an increased duration of the project.
