AbstractA rigorous iterative method for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures, such as beams and frames, is presented. The nonlinear properties of concrete and steel are taken into account. The method uses P-M-0 curve which is constructed based on the nonlinear stress-strain relationship of the materials. An iterative process following the load moment-curvature relationship is employed in solving a set of simultaneous equations for the unknown curvatures of all the segments which comprise the total structure. Several examples are shown to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed method. Comparisons of the results of this study with existing experimental results showed a good agreement. Based on this study, elastic flexural rigidity (EI) values which may be used in an alternative elastic calculation of the frame and its ultimate rotational capacity is proposed.
