| Abstract | Hydrologic data augmentation schemes using statistical method were evaluated for selected river basins in the Philippines. The scheme best suited to the type of hydrologic records for those basins was identified. The augmentation methods evaluated were: 1) percent deviation method (by the California Water Resources Department 1974) - an annual and monthly procedure that uses linear regression analysis; 2) Matalas-Jacobs method (1964) - an annual procedure that applies linear regression with a noise tern; and 3) YOR (Young-Orlob-Roesner) method (1970) - a monthly procedure that employs an overall monthly multiple regression analysis for a number of interrelated stations. The three methods were tested utilizing rainfall and runoff records from representative basins of different climatic types. The testing procedure devised was to reconstitute a portion of the historical runoff record through the use of the augmentation model and later, compare the generated part with its corresponding historical value. The study revealed that in the estimation of the monthly streamflow, the percent deviation and YOR values were close to the historical values; while in the estimation of the annual streamflow no particular method could consistently resemble the historical value. |
