AbstractThe stress distributions resulting from a uniformlydistributed load on a rectangular area at the surface of a homogeneous, isotropic and elastic solid of infinite extent are derived theoretically for two c^ses, i.e. "Case I, the stress distribution resulting from vertical force and Case II, the stress distribution due to a tangential force for the special case of Poisson’s ratio of one half”.
