| Abstract | A reinforced concrete roof of five plates was analysed by Simpson's Method and then tested as a one-fifth scale model of reinforced concrete supported by two transverse diaphragms. The behavior of the model was studied and the experimental results compared with those of analysis. The model was tested at an age of 2 weeks by using sand bags and pig-iron bars uniformly distributed over the whole structure. The first crack load and the final load were 10,440 kg. and 18,986 kg. respectively. The longitudinal strains by analysis were higher than the experimental values but their directions were confirmed. The portion of roof designed as a cantilever did not produce satisfactory results or demonstrate the expected behavior. The experimental vertical displacements agreed with the analytical values. |
