| Abstract | Engineering properties of the Permian limestone from. 11 location in Thailand were determined. The limestone is gray fine to medium grained sprite with l ow to medium strength and high modulus ratio (DH to CH). The mean bulk specific gravity is 2.755 and the mean porosity is 0.447%. The porosity seems to be the best index property which reflects the mechanical properties of the rock. The average unconfined compressive strength of the Permian limestone is 6415.8 t/m2 whereas its mean tensile strength is 709.4 t/m2. The mean cohesion and average internal friction angle are 503 and 65 degree respectively. The average values of modulus of elasticity and Poisson's ratio are 7.54 x 10-6 t/m2 and 0.254. The engineering properties of the Permian limestone were compared with those of the: lime stones of other ages in Thailand and it was found that the water content, water absorption, porosity, and void ratio decrease with age whereas the bulk, saturated, and dry specific gravities increase. Strengths and elastic moduli seem to increase with age also. |
