AbstractThe purpose of this study is to find an optimal production planning for a battery plant and also find out the necessary expansion of the plant to meet the anticipated demand at a minimum cost. From the past sales records the monthly demand for different types of batteries are estimated. Using the estimated demand of battery as basis, the required quantity of major components (that is, rubber containers, plates, and rubber separators) are then determined. A linear programming model is developed to determine the optimal production quantity during normal shift and overtime operations and their associated production costs. Sensitivity analysis is then performed for the possibilities in which demand increases by 10, 15, 20 and 25 percent. The results obtained are used for scheduling the amount of production during normal shift and overtime operation in each month.
