| Abstract | The work of this problem is to take field measurements of deflec¬ tions and strains of a series of large concrete silos, for the storage of maize, at Phrapradang, (near Bangkok). Measurements were carried out using dial gauges for deflections and Demec gauges for strains. This study involves comparison of these measurements with an analysis based on the theory of cylindrical shells. Temperature effects were in¬ cluded in the field measurements. Test results showed that the deflec¬ tions due to temperature were as great as the deflections due to full load. The comparison indicates that the maximum values of deflections from theory and experiment were quite close and occurred at similar positions in the silo. |
