| Abstract | The purpose of this study is to evaluate the housing situation in Taiwan and t o assess the feasibility of housing industrialization. Housing industrialization is composite in nature. Its adoption at different levels will directly or indirectly influence its success. Its application seems to show promise in helping to solve the housing shortage. Analysis concerning the development of systems building was conducted in Taiwan. It was found that a saving of 30-43% was achieved in shortening the construction period , but with modest saving in building cost . case of high-rise building the advantages were not clear. In the It is suggested that housing industrialization should specify its development within a limited area, namely, t o develop 4-5 storey residential buildings in highly concentrated urban areas, or in new towns. This is t o take advantage of systems building despite its shortcomings. In response to the increasing housing shortage, it is suggested that housing construction techniques be industrialized at different levels. By using rationalized conventional construction methods and partial prefabricated construction methods it is hoped that the demand for housing can be partially met. |
