| Abstract | This research attempts to modify the existing methods of finding
economic impacts of growth centre and to study the socio-economic impacts and effects of growth centre in Jaffna region of Sri Lanka. There is very little research clone on this line and it is hoped that the findings of this study is useful in updating regional plans and national
policies in developing countries and in particular in Sri Lanka.
The study is done in two streams, one, finding out the economic impact of the growth centre in rural surroundings through the spending pattern
of various entities and the other, studying the socio-economic effects of the centre in the spatial pattern of the socio-economic effects of the centre in the spatial pattern of the surroundings. The results are found to be agreeing with favourable nature of growth centre in the regional context and the potentiality for further growth is pin pointed together
with some recommendations for development. |
