AbstractIn order to fulfill the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, organizations worldwide must adopt sustainable procurement processes. This study investigates the extent to which organizations around the world have adopted sustainable procurement (SP), the relationship between institutional pressures (IPs) and SP, and the moderation by dynamic capabilities (DC) in the relationship. Coercive pressures (CP), normative pressures (NP), and mimetic pressures (MP) are the three dimensions of IPs considered in the examination. The study was carried out globally through a questionnaire survey with the respondents collected from procurement experts worldwide with at least two years of experience in the procurement sector. After validating the returned questionnaire’s suitability, 179 valid respondents were analyzed for this research. Multiple regression analysis was done to look into the correlation of SP adoption with CP, NP, and MP. Moderation analysis was done using PROCESS macro to investigate the moderating effect of DC.The result showed that CP, NP, and MP have strong positive associations with adopting SP, with MP contributing the most. Additionally, the study found that the moderating effect of DC was not statistically significant in the relationship between the three dimensions of IPs and SP. With unexpectedly nonsignificant results, the study extended the investigation further by analyzing DC as the mediator in the relationship between the three dimensions of IPs and SP. Interestingly, the mediation of DC was significant for the relationship between the three dimensions of IPs and the adoption of SP.The study’s motivation is to contribute knowledge to the field of SP. This study is expected to make several contributions to the literature including knowledge about influence of IPs on adoption of SP and the moderating role of DC on the relationship between IPs and adoption of SP in organizations. The main limitation of research is that it has been conducted at global level and studies conducted at national or regional levels might bring out different results. Future studies focusing on a specific industry or at a national or regional level may also be explored.
