AbstractThis study aims at identifying the low income people's day to day solutions to their housing needs. The study also contains a policy analysis with respect to that housing delivery system. The l ow income housing delivery system in Colombo consists of 7 subsystems, namely the squatters housing subsystem, the temporary land tenure subsystem, the private housing subsystem, the employees housing subsystem, the commuters housing subsystem, the public construction subsystem and the public assistance subsystem. One third of the study population live in the squatters housing subsystem and another one third live in the public assistance subsystem. These subsystems are further subdivided into different types of the housing delivery system.
