AbstractRegional growth differences presents a socio-economic problem in many countries. The strength and the spatiality of interindustrial linkages among industries in urban agglomerations play a substantial role in generating regional growth differences. Many nations have attempted to disperse economic activity, to backward regions, in the hope of generating self sustaining growth in weaker regions. However, the existance and the nature of interindustrial linkages prevent the self sustaining industrial growth if the areal dispersion of industries is carried out in terms of individual industries. The findings reveal that the characteristics of interindustrial linkages of state sector industries are different from that of private sector industries. The said characteristics are also different in the case of large scale and small scale industries. These differences attribute a higher growth potential to private sector large scale industries but the activity and the location of state sector industries tend to reduce the growth potential of private sector large scale industries.
