AbstractIn order to investigate the effect of the sample size of streamflow record as des_ign inflow sequences on the water resources system outputs in operation stage, the layout and dimensions of Pa Mong Project were used as a basic data for the discussion. The effect was studied on the basis ·of both material and monetary terms. The material terms, from the statistical point of view, include annual total generated energy, annual generated firm energy and annual shortage in firm energy, and their distributions. The monetary terms, on the other hand ,are composed of relative error of the gross power benefit and the project net benefit. In this study, by using simulation techniques, it was shown that the longer the design inflow sequences, the better the estimation of system outputs. But furthermore, the degree of the accuracy of estimation is affected not only by the sample size of record used for design, but also by the system parameters, the operation procedures and the criteria.
