AbstractIn the Cnoidal Wave Theory non-linear surface conditions are to be dealt with and it becomes improbable to find the exact solution for it. In this thesis modified approaches to the Cnoidal Wave Theory are presented, starting from the same equation system as in the Stokes Wave Theory. The essential difference between these theories is reviewed and their accuracies are compared in terms of two error parameters newly introduced for this purpose. Revised criteria for the application of each theory is proposed.
