AbstractThe regime of the Takua Pa tidal channel is investigated in this study. A numerical model based on the equations of unsteady flow in open channels is used to compute the tidal currents at several sections in the channel. The model uses an implicit finite difference method. The amount of deposition (or erosion) is then estimated in the channel at various points from the knowledge of the current velocity and the characteristics of sediment. Finally, the stability of the Ko Kao inlet is examined by using the tidal prism area relationship and the tidal prism/littoral drift ratio. The results from the model indicate that the current in the channel is quite strong, especially during the spring tide. Also it is found from the sedimentation calculations, that the channel is not undergoing very much siltation and the tidal inlet is in a fairly good condition.
