| Abstract | All the standard equations for the estimation of evapotranspiration have been developed from observations in arid or temperate climates. It was felt that it would be worthwhile if these various equations could be evaluated in a tropical environment. The present study has been conducted to investigate the applicability of these equations under' tropical conditions, comparing evapotranspiration as computed.by the equations of Blaney-Criddle," Hargreaves Blaney-Marin, Thornthwaite and Lowry-Johnson with six years' data of observed evapotranspiration (by lysimeter) of rice crop, it has been concluded that the Blaney-Criddle and Hargreaves equations are applicable in these tropical areas especially central Thailand, provided they have appropriate monthly consumptive use coefficients. Among these, the Blaney-Criddle equation is more suitable than Hargreaves equation. Tentative, suggested values for the consumptive use coefficients of rice crop for the equation of Blaney-Criddle have been evaluated with 90 per cent confidence limits. |
