| Abstract | Methane production could be optimized by using a two-phase anaerobic digestion system. When compared with a conventional anaerobic system the gas production was increased by nearly 50% from 0.73 to 1.03 litres/g MLVSS-day. Besides, the carbon dioxide content of the gas produced in the methanogenesis phase is much less than in the conventional system (26% of 58%). The advantage of the two-phase system compared with the conventional system is found to be significant. |
