AbstractThe construction industry faces a continual challenge in managing project costs effectively. The complex and dynamic nature of construction projects necessitates innovative approaches to cost control. This study addresses this challenge by focusing on design management strategies to enhance project cost control in construction projects. The primary objective of this study is to investigate and delineate the role of design management strategies in optimizing cost control in construction projects. The research aims to understand how collaborative design decision-making, material optimization, contractor collaboration, and other design management practices impact project cost control. A comprehensive case study approach was employed in this research. Multiple construction projects were analyzed, emphasizing those that successfully applied design management strategies to control costs. The study involved the examination of each project's entire lifecycle, from the conceptual stage through to completion. Real world data, including project documentation and cost reports, was used to evaluate the impact of these strategies. The findings of this study reveal that the implementation of design management strategies significantly enhances project cost control. Collaborative decision-making, material optimization, and contractor collaboration all contribute to cost savings, increased project efficiency, and improved design quality. The research underscores the potential for these strategies to mitigate the complexities and challenges inherent in construction projects.
