AbstractThis is a preliminary feasibility study for the establishment of rice bran oil industry in the Northern region of Thailand. First of all characteristics of Thai rice bran as well as different methods of oil extraction have been studied in detail. Next, various cost model s have been applied to determine the optimum size of the plants. Plant of capacities 50 tons/day and 100 tons/day of r ice bran have been used for analysis. For plants of these capacities, capital investment, profit comparison, break-even points, profit planning and annual rates of return have been calculated. A quantitative model has also been used to determine the optimum location for the industry.
