AbstractIn this study, feasibility study of setting up a gasoline engine manufacturing plant was formulated. It is the alternative for the automotive assembly industry to increase domestic content from now 25 percent up to higher than 50 percent. Model for the investment analysis is built and sensitivity analysis is made to take care future variations. Problems and obstacles that faced by the automotive industry are identified and classified. Comparative study among some developing countries: Argentina, Yugoslavia, South Korea and the Philippines are discussed to give comprehensive view of the problems and alternative for corrections. Stepwise Regression procedure is employed to determine factors that affect demand for different types of motor-vehicles. Lastly, the regional cooperation in the automotive industry development is discussed as a prerequisite for the fully integrated industry. Two proposals given by the ASEAN (ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH - EAST ASIA NATIONS) Advisory committee are briefly discussed and the Author's alternative is proposed.
