| Abstract | Institutional factors which discussed in this thesis are land tenure reform, credit institution and marketing institutions. The three different steps of land reform in Taiwan started from 1949-1953. Although it has indirect relationship with the productivity increase, it has provided the social-political equity to the tenants or landless farmers. To the landlords, the land reform took their economic and social prestige away. In Happy Village, the tenants united themselves as one group to resist against the landlords to express their discontent which rooted in their minds long before. The credit institutions can be divided into public and private sectors. It was found that, from this study, more and more farmers used the public credit institutions than before. And the other important finding was that most of credit loans were used in reinvesting to the agricultural works. The commercial- oriented production makes the marketing institutions become more active. The people used the market to sell their products, and the market offered more and more entrepreneurial services as incentive to stimulate the farmers to plant more crops. The marketing institutions in Taiwan not only provide stimulus to farmers but also contribute to the national economic development. |
